The 11 skills in the pack
Each one is a slash command in Claude Code. The tools are plain Python that read free public data: Yahoo Finance charts, Nasdaq Trader's symbol lists, SEC EDGAR and the House Clerk.
- Chart Scanner/trader-scanner
Scans thousands of US stock charts for setups like opening-range breakouts, flags and oversold bounces.
- News Monitor/trader-news
Follows headlines and SEC filings for every stock on your watchlist and flags what could move it.
- Entry Timer/trader-entry
Watches a setup candle by candle and says when it has triggered, is still waiting or has expired.
- Exit Planner/trader-exit
Writes your stop, your target and a flat-by-the-close time before you enter.
- Time Machine/trader-timemachine
Replays the rest of the session 10,000 times from the stock's own recent candles, plus every past day the setup fired, and reports the odds.
- Budget Manager/trader-budget
Sizes the position so a stopped-out trade loses no more than your max loss.
- Risk Manager/trader-risk
Checks each order against your daily loss limit, trade count, reward-to-risk and cash, then passes or blocks it.
- Order Executor/trader-broker
Shows the ticket in plain words and sends it to your broker only after you type yes. Paper trading by default.
- Price Alerts/trader-alerts
Rings when the stop, the target or the closing time hits.
- Earnings Analyst/trader-analyst
Reads a company's reported numbers from SEC EDGAR and sums up what changed.
- Pelosi Tracker/trader-pelosi
Reads the stock trades members of Congress disclose, as soon as the filing posts.
How one trade flows through it
Everything lands in a trader/ folder in your project, and each skill reads what the last one wrote:
scanner → news → entry → exit → timemachine → budget → risk → broker alerts: stop, target, flat by the close (while the trade is open) news, analyst, pelosi: on a schedule
The scanner finds a setup, the news monitor checks nothing big is coming, the entry timer waits for the trigger, and the exit planner fixes the stop and target first. The Time Machine then tells you how often that plan actually worked. In the author's own walkthrough on a real Tesla trade, its verdict was close to a coin flip, which is exactly the kind of answer you want before risking money. Only then does the budget manager size the trade, the risk manager approve it and the broker skill ask for your yes.
How to install the Day Trader skill
Pick one of three ways. All need Python 3.8 or newer, with nothing to pip install.
- Ask Claude to install it. Paste this into Claude Code:
https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/day-trader-skill install skill
- Install it as a Claude Code plugin:
/plugin marketplace add Jakeschincariol/day-trader-skill /plugin install day-trader-skill@day-trader-skill
Plugin skills are namespaced, so they show up as/day-trader-skill:trader-scannerand so on. - Copy the folders if you want plain
/trader-scanner:git clone https://github.com/Jakeschincariol/day-trader-skill.git cp -r day-trader-skill/trader-* ~/.claude/skills/
The SEC tools (news filings and the earnings analyst) ask you to identify yourself. Put your name and email in trader/config.json as sec_user_agent, or in the SEC_USER_AGENT environment variable. New to skills? The install guide covers every method.
Prompts to try
- /trader-scanner Which stocks have broken out of their opening range so far today?
- Plan the exit for this TSLA setup: stop at the range midpoint, target 1R, flat by 3:55 PM.
- Run the Time Machine on this plan before I size it. Is the edge real?
- Size the trade for a $5,000 account and a $50 max loss, then run the risk check.
- What stock trades did members of Congress disclose this week?
Day Trader skill vs the original Trader skill
The Day Trader skill is the sequel to Jake Schincariol's original Trader skill, which is built for slower investing: it rebuilds a famous investor's portfolio from their 13F filing so you can copy it, watches the news on what you hold, sizes every position to your budget and tracks Congress's trades. Use the Trader skill to build a portfolio and the Day Trader skill for intraday trades.
Does it work for Indian stocks (NSE and BSE)?
Not out of the box. The pack is built around US markets: the scanner's universe is about 5,900 US stocks from Nasdaq Trader, news and earnings come from SEC filings, times are New York time, and the broker skill talks to Alpaca. Community ports for NIFTY stocks have started to appear on GitHub, but they are new rewrites of the data and order code, so read the code and stay on paper before you trust one.
The methods themselves travel well: a stop set before you enter, a position sized from your max loss, and a replay of the odds before you commit. You can use those skills as a checklist with your own chart data.
Read this before you trade
- It's research, not financial advice. No skill can see the future, and StealIt doesn't test or endorse any strategy.
- Most day traders lose money. In India, SEBI found that about 7 in 10 individual intraday traders in the equity cash segment lost money in FY2022-23.
- Paper trade first. The broker skill defaults to a paper account. Keep it there until the Time Machine and your own results agree.
- Free data can lag or have gaps. Check prices with your broker before you act on an alert.
