Test Driven Development

test-driven-development

Use when implementing any feature or bugfix, before writing implementation code

Install

Run this in your project folder. It works with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and dozens of other agents.

$ npx skills add obra/superpowers --skill test-driven-development

Needs Node.js. Add -g to install for every project, or -a claude-code to skip the agent picker.

How to use Test Driven Development

Once it's installed, Claude reads this skill on its own whenever a request matches what it's for, so you don't have to mention it by name. In Claude Code you can also run it directly by typing /test-driven-development.

It contains no scripts, only instructions and reference files, so it can't run code on its own.

What the instructions cover

  1. 1Overview
  2. 2When to Use
  3. 3The Iron Law
  4. 4Red-Green-Refactor
  5. 5Good Tests
  6. 6Common Rationalizations
  7. 7Red Flags - STOP and Start Over
  8. 8Example: Bug Fix
  9. 9Verification Checklist
  10. 10When Stuck
  11. 11Debugging Integration
  12. 12Final Rule
